UTXO в Bitcoin — из чего состоит баланс Bitcoin-кошелька

What Is a Bitcoin UTXO and Why Does It Matter?

When you open your Bitcoin wallet and see a balance of, for example, 0.01 BTC, it may seem like this amount is simply stored in the wallet as a single unit.

In reality, Bitcoin works differently.

Your wallet balance can consist of several separate parts called UTXOs. They are created when you receive Bitcoin and are used when new transactions are made.

Understanding UTXOs helps you see what your Bitcoin wallet balance is actually made of, how transactions work, and why having many small incoming transactions can affect future fees.

What Is a Bitcoin UTXO?

UTXO (Unspent Transaction Output) is an unspent output from a Bitcoin transaction.

At first, the definition may sound complicated, so it is easier to think of a regular wallet containing cash.

Suppose it contains three bills:

  • 10 US dollars

  • 20 US dollars

  • 50 US dollars

In total, you have 80 US dollars (USD). But there is no single 80-dollar bill in your wallet — your total balance is made up of three separate bills.

Bitcoin uses a similar principle.

Imagine that your Bitcoin wallet contains three UTXOs:

  • 0.001 BTC

  • 0.002 BTC

  • 0.007 BTC

Your wallet will show a total balance of 0.01 BTC, even though technically this amount consists of three separate unspent outputs.

Each UTXO was created by a previous transaction and can be used as an input for a new transaction.

Important

A UTXO is not a separate physical coin or a file stored inside your wallet. It is a record on the Bitcoin blockchain representing an amount of BTC that has not yet been spent and can be used by the owner of the corresponding private keys.

✅ The Bitcoin wallet itself stores your private keys and tracks the UTXOs associated with them, which it uses to calculate your available balance.
